‘Robinhood’ is a full-on fun entertainer that the entire family can enjoy. Nithiin believes it will be the best movie of his career: Director Venkatesh Kudumula

Hero Nithiin's highly anticipated heist comedy entertainer, “Robinhood”, features Sreeleela as the heroine. Directed by Venkatesh Kudumula, the film has been produced on a high budget by Maitri Movie Makers. Veteran actor Rajendra Prasad plays a key role, while Australian cricketer David Warner appears in a special guest role. Promotional content released so far has created a huge buzz. The songs composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar have become chartbusters. The movie is set to release in theaters on March 28. On this occasion, director Venkatesh Kudumula shared details about the film in a press meet.

How did the Robinhood journey start?

- After “Bheeshma”, I thought of a story for Chiranjeevi sir. When I shared the first idea with him, he was really excited. I'm a huge fan of Chiranjeevi sir, and I worked for a long time on the story and screenplay development. But, at some point, I couldn't satisfy him, and it didn’t turn out as we expected. I told him I would come up with a new idea.

- Later, I met Nithiin. I always write stories based on the hero. The idea of “Robinhood” was already there. After finalizing Nithiin as the lead, I shaped the story to suit him.

How was it working with Nithiin after Bheeshma?

- After “Bheeshma”, a comfortable journey began between us. I had previously worked as an associate director on “A Aa”, which gave me a good connection with Nithiin. The journey of “Robinhood” was wonderful as well.

How will the hero’s character be in this movie?

- The hero is a manipulator. He believes that mental strength is more important than physical strength. In the first 20 minutes of the movie, the character is introduced through various get-ups. After that, the story takes a turn and becomes very different. I believe this will be the best movie of both Nithiin’s and my career. The film will have fun at regular intervals, making it a family entertainer suitable for all ages.

What about David Warner's role?

- I thought it would be great to have an international star for a cameo role. When the producers asked, I suggested David Warner. I'm a huge cricket fan and admire his game. I never thought it would be possible, but producer Ravi Garu made a serious effort and arranged a meeting. I was really surprised. I met Warner in Delhi and presented the idea, and he was very excited about it.

- Warner is a family man. He started making reels to entertain his kids, and that continued. He acted very confidently, and that confidence showed in his reels.

What about Rajendra Prasad's character?

- Rajendra Prasad's role is very important in the movie. He runs a security agency. He gets manipulated by the hero and gets caught in a serious world. He naively gets trapped in it. From the time I wrote this character, he was the only one I had in mind for it.

How is Sreeleela's character?

- Talent is one thing, and imagining someone to have talent is another. In this movie, Sreeleela’s character is of a very intellectual girl (laughs). She’s very funny and brings a lot of entertainment to the role.

What about G.V. Prakash’s music?

- I’ve wanted to work with him for a long time. He’s the kind of composer who delivers music at the right time. The songs have already received a great response, and the background score is extraordinary. The surprise song fits perfectly within the story.

Who made the selection for Ketika Sharma?

- The producers initially thought about casting Ketika for a special number in *Pushpa*, but it didn’t work out. When the chance came for this film, we decided that Ketika would be a good fit for the song.

Did you have time to improve the movie before release?

- Definitely. We had a lot of time. We focused on improving the quality of music and post-production. The movie is coming out with excellent quality.

What’s the justification for the title “Robinhood”?

- The hero in this film stands up for those in need, just like Robinhood. The title is apt for this story, and it also carries a positive message.

What about the action in Robinhood?

- I’ve always wanted to work with action master Ram Laxman. The interval block was designed by Vikram More master. Real Satish and Ravi Varma also worked on the action sequences, which turned out amazing.

About Maitri Movie Makers?

- Maitri Movie Makers never compromise once they finalize the story. Their support is outstanding, and they ensure the movie is made without cutting corners.

What about the viral podcast by Nithiin?

- Honestly, it worked well because we did it outside the film. Including such a sequence in the film without context wouldn’t have worked.

There are comments that your dialogues have Trivikram’s style. How do you feel about that?

- That’s the biggest compliment I could get. I consider him my guru. I worked with him on a film and learned so many things from him.

What kind of genre would you like to work on next?

- I love fantasy stories. I want to work on stories that have a fantasy touch.

Will you be working with Chiranjeevi sir in the future?

- Definitely, I will work with Chiranjeevi sir.

*All the best!

- Thank you.
